Gokyo Lake Special 17 Days

Gokyo Lake Trek is another most popular trek in the Khumbu region after Everest base Camp Trek. This trek is in the Gokyo Valley which is adjacent of the Khumbu. Gokyo is composed of high altitude lakes and icy glaciers. Trekkers will get the most amazing view of the Khumbu region along with the 4 highest peaks in the world Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8153m), Lhotse (8501m) and Makalu (8463m) and some of the great Glaciers, mainly the Ngozumpa Glacier from the high vantage point called Gokyo Ri (5350m).

Day 1: Kathmandu arrival (1300m)

Day 3: Fly to Lukla (2840 m) and Trek to Phakding (2616 m)

Day 1: Kathmandu arrival (1300m)
Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital city of the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal.You will be met on airport and transferred to your hotel. After the arrival, the group will be formally introduced to Guide for the activities over the next few days. One should pay attention in particular to the safety aspects of the briefing. Any questions or doubts should be asked and clarified at this time.

Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing
After breakfast, we start an interesting tour around Kathmandu. Escorting by an English speaking guide (can be provide any language speaking guide on request) be, try to give them a full taste of our vivid culture image and an enchanting manner of its people. In our sightseeing tour we go to Monkey temple Swyambhunath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar square.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla (2840 m) and Trek to Phakding (2616 m)
We take an early morning flight to lukla. The flight be around 35-40 mins. The flight itself is very exciting and adventurous as we fly along with the mountains just parallel to us. As we land in Lukla we will be meted by our local guides and team member. Lukla is a beautiful Sherpa village which is known as the gateway to Everest. You can explore the village while the team starts to prepare for the trek.
We start the trek heading towards Phakding which is roughly about 4-5 hours from Lukla. We will decend to wide trial in northwest direction to the village of Choblung. Pine and Rhododendron forest fill up the trial with its beauty. The trial is easy and follows along side of the Sunkoshi River through the village of Ghat.
Overnight at Teahouse Lodge at Phakding.

Day 4: Trek to Namche bazaar (3440 m)
We head up a busy trial that leads us up to Namche. The trial is filled up with yaks, ponies, and porter taking up the expedition gears to the base camp. We follow the Dudhkoshi River and cross it via a suspension bridge at Jarsale. Along the way we can see views of Kusum Kangru(6369 m) and Thanserku (6608 m). We go upstream after we cross the suspension bridge and start ascending to Namche. Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8511m), Nuptse (7879m), Amadablam(6856m) and Tawache(6542m) suddenly arise as we go up. The view is really magnificent as we climb up higher and higher. It takes around 3 to 4 hrs to get to Namche from Phakding.

Day 5: Namche Bazar Rest Day
We need to prepare our body fit accordingly with the increasing altitudes and temperature. In order to do so, we have a rest/acclimatize day in Namche. It is basically done for preventing high altitude sickness as we climb further higher. Early in the morning we climb up to the ridge above the Namche Village to see an amazing sunrise over the Himalayas. We can even walk along Thami Village or visit Sagamatha National Park Headquarters (A world heritage site 1979). You can also walk up to the infamous Sherpa Village called Khumjung. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge in Namche.

Day 6: Trek to Dole (4110 m)
We start the trek from Namche after breakfast passing via Khumjung. It takes about 6 hours to get to Dole by this way. Khumjung is a picturesque village from where you can observe excellent views of Thamserku, Kantega and Ama Dablam. After leaving beautiful Khumjung the trial climbs to a long chorten on top of the ridge. This ridge descends from Khumbila, a 5734 peak, said to be the abode of the patron God of Khumbu region. The trial then descends from Khumbila towards the Sanasa and then ascends up to Mongla (4000 m). From here we trek steeply descend passing through Phortse Tenga and from there, the trail climbs steeply to Dole, through rhododendron and birch forest festooned and hanging mosses and lichens. Day 7: Trek to Machermo (4470 m)
This trek will be for about 5 hours from Dole to Machermo. Most of the part of the trial is much steeper as it goes through juniper’s scrubs. There is huge flatland called Kharkas usually used for grazing the yaks during the summer region. These kharkas are owned by the people residing in Khumjung Village. It is also told that this place is habitat of the mysterious Yeti and has been hunting yaks and even people. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge at Machermo.

Day 8: Trek to Gokyo (4790 m)
Climb to Gokyo takes about 4 hours with some of the magnificent and breathtaking views looking down the valley to Kantega and up to Cho Oyu (8153m). The trial passes through Panga at 4390m as the trial widens after that we descend to the riverbank before beginning to climb on to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. It's a steep climb up the moraine, switch backing alongside the stream to the first small lake at 4650m, where a family of green Braminy ducks resides. The trail now becomes almost level at 4690m and finally Gokyo at 4750m. Overnight in Gokyo at Teahouse Lodge or Tented Camp.

Day 9: Excursion at Gokyo Ri (5357m)
We observe the tremendous view around Gokyo Ri on this day. It takes about 1.5 hours to climb to the top of Gokyo Ri a small peak above the lake. The views we see are of Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and Twachee. One can also trek up the valley to another lake with the name of Ngozumpa on the maps or even beyond to a fifth lake. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge in Gokyo.

Day 10: Trek to Dole (4110 m)
We will have breakfast and start the trek. We will follow the similar trail back to Dole. O/N in Dole. O/N Dole at Teahouse or Tented Camp. (B/L/D)

Day 11: Trek to Phortse (3810 m)
After having our breakfast we start our trip to Phortse. It will take roughly about 5 hours to get to Phortse. The trial descends through the valley of rhododendron forests, which give way to fragrant stand of juniper and large conifers. In spring this trial is out burst with blooming rhododendron. The trial passes many kharkas, summer settlements where Sherpas bring herds of yaks to graze in these high pastures. The route passes through Tongba and Gyele village. The view of Khumbila and Tawachee can be seen and are very beautiful along the trial.

Day 12: Trek to Pangboche (3930 m)
We leave Phortse after breakfast. The walk today will take around 5 hours. You will be greeted by the views of Kantega and Tyanboche monastery which is very famous for wildlife viewing. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge in Pangboche.

Day 13: Trek to Namchhe (3880 m)
From Pangboche we head towards Naamche which will take about 5 hours. The trial descends and again ascends as you walk. This trial is a busy trial as people from lower Khumbu bring their basic things up to where they live in generally porters, yaks, ponies etc… fills up the trial. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge in Namche.

Day 14: Trek to Phakding
Namche is the main center for Everest trekkers; this beautiful village has got seriously unbelievable facilities in it. You can find some exclusive gifts and souvenirs that you can take back home. So after short visit of Namche we head towards Phakding. It will take around 5 hours to reach Phakding following the course of Dudh Koshi River. Overnight at Teahouse Lodge in Phakding.

Day 15: Trek to Lukla (2840 m)
This morning we will depart Phakding and continue our descent along the Dudh Kosi, before making a final ascent to reach the Lukla plateau by mid afternoon. On arrival in Lukla you will have time to relax and celebrate the completion of your trek. O/N in Lukla at Teahouse Lodge.

Day 16: Fly back to Kathmandu
We will be having flight to Kathmandu in this day. You can have last minute shopping and collect souvenirs. You will be conveyed to hotel by our team waiting for you in Kathmandu airport. O/N in Kathmandu.

Day 17: Final Departure Today a representative from Mountain Leades will drop you at the airport from where you will proceed to your further destination.
O/N in Kathmandu.
